Diversity in Marketing: Creating Inclusive Workplaces One Team at a Time
In this episode, we're talking about equality, diversity and inclusion in Marketing - with both Jaysica and I representing the diverse marketing workforce of Britain. I was born and bred in Romania, and Jaysica is a British Sindhi Gibraltarian who grew up in New York City.
We’ve started the discussion looking at a study from Deloitte published about 3 years ago showing that younger generations are more likely to notice representative advertising when considering a purchase. The study also notes that over 50% of consumers are more loyal to brands that commit to addressing social inequities in their actions.
I’ve then asked Jaysica for tips for employers and Heads of Departments who want to get started with - or improve their EDI practices.
We’ve also looked at things employers should NOT do in order to avoid mistreating employees, from an EDI perspective.
This conversation has highlighted matters that I’ve never considered before as well as concerns and experiences that have been part of my life too.
The conclusion was: do unto others as you would have them do to you. Treat people fairly, show empathy and kindness and you’ll likely be on the safe side of EDI.
